Solveigh Goett's Mirabilia Domestica- the textile self re-collected
HYBRIDS
January 2007
25.5cm x 20.5cm x 2.5cm
Description
A one-page book: pens and reels of sewing thread on linen. Cover: canvas stretcher, lacy tablecloth, paint, machine stitching.
Themes, Comments and Storylines
Hybrids between writing and making: writing about textiles, making textiles. The hybridity of textile art: the white canvas of concept and fine art, the doily of textile craft. A balance so easily achieved in the making of an object, but fraud with so may obstacles in the making of a thesis. A representation of my research.
Above is a piece of work produced by Solveigh Goett for her PhD entitled Mirabilia Domestica - the textile self re- collected.
On the 29th of July 2010 I will begin work as a full time assistant for Solveigh, and help through both the preparatory stages and the duration of her installation.
If you are interested in textiles with a narrative and the thought of being able to touch items in an exhibition excites you then this exhibition is for you. The exhibition will run from Saturday 7th August until 29th August 2010.
